People who wanted to, could have a tray at being a matador or a bull. With some practice, we became quite proficient at whisking the capone (cape) away from the bull at the very last minute.
You can watch a video of some of the bull fighting and the signorettas parading on the CBS news: CBS news - week 7

Our Spanish Day
Mrs Bear's daughter, Ali, has come to New Zealand for a holiday. She spent a day at Cockle Day teaching us some Spanish language, pronunciation and some simple greetings.
We also learned a little of about the Spanish culture by dressing up as signorettas, role playing bull fights and learning a traditional Spanish dance. We will perform the dance in front of the school at our Weka Assembly on Friday.
After lunch we selected tapas from the tapas bar, instead of our usual brain food break. We could choose from la albondiga (meatballs in spicy tomato) and tortilla (a kind of potato omelette). We used a crispy slice of bread like a little plate with a toothpick to keep our tapas from falling off.

Art Expo
Room 18 has been exploring the use of clay by applying the following skills: rolling, sizing, pulling, scratching and firing.
For the Art Expo, we first looked at pictures of dog eared daisies, and then we copied Nature's design to make a field of daisies using clay. You can see individual daisy tiles on the Visual Arts page.

Lloyd Elsmore - the Water Confidence Course
When we went on the water confidence course at Lloyd Elsmore, we were first divided into three groups. Each group went to a different activity, and then changed so that each group completed all three events: kayaking, snorkelling and life saving. Everyone had a go at everything, even the eskimo roll!
Lloyd Elsmore Trip - the Marble Run
Room 1 and Room 18 went together to Lloyd Elsmore Swimming Complex to try new things so we could become more confident in the water.
Room 18 went swimming first, which gave us time to try out the marble run by the Howick Historical Village. It was interesting to see that we came away with more marble than we had taken, some of us must have very sharp eyesight!

Fractions of Shapes
Shell Art
Lots of people have enjoyed setting out the shells in the iron sand from Raglan. It has been interesting to see all the different patterns we have made on the Science Table.
